The Best Is Yet To Come!

For nearly the past decade Brandon Watson has been the team to beat in the Ontario short track scene. Regardless of the event being a crown jewel or a regular Saturday Night APC Series event, if you want to win, chances are you’ll have to go through Brandon Watson.

In recent years only a handful of drivers have been able to compete at Brandon’s level. Matt Pritiko, JR Fitzpatrick, Jason Hathaway and Andy Kamrath have all been able to go toe to toe with the 9 car and come out on the winning side, but no one has been able to make Brandon look more human than Jo Lawrence did in 2020.

In the 5 APC Races that took place in the Covid shortened season, Jo Lawrence and Brandon Watson finished 1-2 in 4 of the 5 races. While both drivers ran up front for each of the events, there was no harder fought battle on the track than there was between both drivers, combining to sweep the season, picking up all 5 APC wins. But with the 2021 season right around the corner, everyone is wondering what will this season look like.

While Brandon and Jo would be considered the clear favoritie’s to contend once again, there is a long line of extremely talented drivers who are looking for that breakout season. It’s a hard to believe that drivers like Treyten Lapcevich, Jake Sheridan, Pete Shepherd, Ryan Kimball and Danny Benedict are all looking for their first APC Series win still. Then you have former champions, JR Fitzpatrick and Matt Pritiko who are looking to get back in victory lane after going winless in 2020.

On top of that, you have drivers like Dale Shaw, Shae Gemmell, Andrew Gresel, and most recently Jade Franklin who have all found success who are looking to continue to contend for wins on a regular basis. That’s an overwhelming list of accomplished drivers who are all looking for success with limited spots available.

There have been 6 different champions in the first 6 years of the APC series, and no less than 24 divers in each race for the last two seasons, and up to 40 drivers arriving to compete. We could be living in one of the most competitive times in Ontario Late Model Racing! If you aren’t a late model fan as of yet, you might become one after this season!
